First week of school Empty
PostSubject: First week of school   First week of school EmptySun 13 Sep 2009, 5:38 pm

Alex (6), like most children, went back to school last Monday.
He has no problems in wanting to go to school which is fantastic.

Last year he had a fantastic teacher who really understood him. She was positive and spoke with us quite often.
This year Alex has a completely new teacher, we were a little anxious of this.

The first week was a little rocky, Alex had a few timeouts but these were mostly playground related and not in the class. There is one child who is quite hyper-active, bless him, and when playing with Alex the pair are a catalyst to each other! Usually something happens! Next year they have actually planned to separate them, this does make a lot of sense actually!

As far as the playground is concerned, the problem lies in structure... there is no structure! It's a free-for-all of chaos!
Alex needs a plan. Sticking him in a giant playground is like a tiny goldfish swimming in the Atlantic ocean!
He's not anxious about it, but it can lead to some misbehaviour or over-creativeness sometimes! So we are going to create some kind of routine for this.

The 'new' teacher gave us some stress the first half of the week. Appeared to lack empathy and understanding. After we spoke to her on the last day of the week I think we were getting somewhere. She is aware of Aspergers.
After that meeting I think we can say we are a little more relieved, we take it day by day but communication is key.
