| Yesterday was a bad day for Alex at school, not entirely his fault but anyway we had to have a talk later on after our dinner. Alex's reaction is of frustration, he doesn't want to listen and gets very fidgety. He knows that his behaviour wasn't too good but we wasn't angry with him, we wanted to help. We spoke calmly, kept the questions precise with lengthy gaps in between answers. We had a clearer picture of what really happened and set out some reward goals. The X-Box 360 is Alex's shrine so to speak and access is granted in timed aliquots following good behaviour. Upon the end of a timed gaming session Alex generally complies first time and switches it off, if its more of a task to turn it off then distraction tactics are employed with success. The goal - good behaviour at school for the remaining 4 days. The reward - on the Friday, after school if everything went well then Alex would be able to choose a new game from the arcade zone (they are cheap), not a full blown £45 game I hasten to add! Alex was completely up for the challenge. When Alex came home today he told me he had been very good at school today - the teacher was pleased, no incidents and he stayed in the 'green' zone - fantastic We praised him up, gentle reminder of the remaining goal, followed by lots of hugs and some reward time on the X-Box So very positive and we are all very pleased! | One of The Boy's (5) greatest talents is that he is marvellously kind, and displays a lot of sympathy for neurotypicals that don't understand him. So, for every instance where he lashes out due to frustration, there is one instance where he has remembered to act more gently. An example - at the bizarrely named 'Soccer Tots', or football training as I call it, a young man in a Chelsea shirt kept diving. The Boy fixed him with the old fish eye, and said, very loudly "oh, he can't help that can he - he's not autistic AND he supports Chelsea." Proud days my friends, proud days! | |

| Sounds like Alex is doing really well. At Oscar's school he gets "Magical Maths Minutes". He has a 3x5 chart and every time the teacher sees that he is really trying to behave and concentrate he gets a tick in one box. Each tick represents one minute of extra maths in the last 15 minutes of the day. So far the highest he has got has been 13. | |
